Stephen Stills - What Have You Got To Lose?

Stephen Stills was only 23-year-old when he was at a Judy Collins session producing Judy’s eighth album, Who Knows Where The Time Goes (November, 1968). That was in April 1998, exactly the 26th. Stephen Stills was probably in a very good mood so he decided to tape 12 new songs, in the same studio, alone with a guitar and a Dobro.
One year later, Stephen Stills joined David Crosby and Graham Nash to record Crosby Stills & Nash (May 1969) and songs from that session were included and became rock classic songs (Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Wooden Ships, Helplessly Hoping). At that time, Stephen Stills was at the top of his songwriting ability.
"The tape has been lost to the wind for almost 40 years", says Stills on the cover of Just Roll Tape – April 26th 1968. This beautiful collection of 12 previously unissued and long-lost 1968 demos resurface after it slept in some drawer during decades. Despites, the recording sound is absolutely perfect and Stills voice and guitar playing are more than just fine.
Of course, you must be a hardcore fan to purchase this document - I am one of them, Stephen Stills was the first rock concert that I ever saw… very long time ago, in Boston – but, if not, you’ll find besides the classic ones some buried treasures like the beautiful Judy or the very Neil Young one The Doctor Will See You Now (among the 5 yet unreleased songs) that will make you think that this guy is probably one of the most important rock singer-songwriter ever. Too bad that Mister Stills lost years later his inspiration on drugs and booze.
